Welcome to Avon

Avon, CT - Formerly the north parish of Farmington, Avon was primarily a farming community.  It's location at the crossroads of the Albany Turnpike and the Farmington Canal led to the emergence of a commercial center.  For many years travelers on the Canal dined and slept here on their way north.  Avon was settled in 1645 as part of Farmington and then incorporated in 1830 as a separate town.  Today it is home to many fine homes and an active retail area along Route 44.  Spend some time going through the shops in Old Avon Village along Route 44 as well.  Avon is the home of the 1st. Company Governor's Horse Guard, which was founded in 1778 and is the nation's oldest cavalry unit. And it is still in operation.
